The Fairfield University Rugby Football Club will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary on October 5th, 2013. A weekend of events is planned, the highlight of which will be a Gala under a tent on Bellarmine Lawn which upwards of 1,000 Rugger Alumni, current players, University officials and guests are expected to attend. Each attendee will receive a Commemorative Journal that will include a comprehensive history of the club, highlighted with memories of 50 years of pictures, performance records, testimonials from noted celebrities, and much more.

Advertising in the journal is a great way to show your support of Fairfield University and its Rugby Club. Donations payable to the Friends of Fairfield Rugby, a 501(c)(3) organization, are tax deductible. The money raised through this journal will support both the University in general and Fairfield Rugby. Ads are available in quarter-page, half page, and full-page formats. If you are interested in ordering an ad via U.S. mail, this downloadable PDF provides all the information you need to place your ad in a 200 page, coffee table style journal that attendees will share with friends and look at for years to come. If you would like to purchase your ad online, please visit for complete descriptions of ad sizes and pricing.

Dear Fairfield Rugger:

On Saturday, October 5, 2013, the Friends of Fairfield Rugby (FOFR) will host a 50th Anniversary Celebration to recognize an extraordinary achievement; the founding of the Fairfield Rugby Football Club in 1963. We will gather to celebrate 50 years of great rugby, sportsmanship, and camaraderie in a day-long celebration at the University. The plans for the day include men’s and women’s matches at Grauert Field, along with ceremonies recognizing 50 years of (mostly) victories, happy memories and great friendships. The evening will include a reception and dinner on Bellarmine Lawn under a tent where we hope to host up to 1,000 Fairfield Rugger Alumni & Alumnae and spouses, current FURFC members, and friends. A group of former and current Red Ruggers are working hard to make this the single greatest party ever thrown at the University!

Some of what we are working on includes:

  • A video history of 50 years of Fairfield Rugby that will be presented to each Rugger in attendance
  • A commemorative ad journal to include a history of the Club, pictures, Club records, and highlights of past teams and seasons.
  • A dinner that will feature recognition of past glories, old and new friends, and lots of memories
  • A significant financial gift from the FOFR to the University and the FURFC.

There are dozens of former Red Ruggers currently working to make this event spectacular. Of course, it won’t be that without your participation. So,

  • Hold the date Saturday, October 5th, 2013 and plan on being at the University in the afternoon and the evening. No excuses…you have a year to plan for this!
  • Don’t be shy about providing any information, historical or otherwise, that will be of interest to those putting together the Club history. This can include pictures, press clippings, anecdotes (a wise group of men and women will determine just what is repeatable and what is not), and anything else you feel will be of interest to your teammates, other Ruggers from different eras, etc.
  • Visit our website at for more information about the Golden Anniversary Celebration, search the Red Rugger Roster data base for your profile and profiles of your friends & classmates, and see a list of Celebration Committee members and Class Captains you can contact.
  • Join the FOFR by using the website instructions for payment on line or by check.

Over the next several weeks and months we will be providing you with more information about the event including:

  • Who the men’s team will be playing (hint, an effort is being made to have the current Ruggers play the team we played in our first ever game in the fall of 1963)
  • The cost of the event and the agenda for the day
  • Where you can stay if you are coming from outside of the area
  • Who else from your class will be attending (this will be the job of your class leaders), and much more.

Check out our website and Facebook Page. Spread the word…we’re all going to be there on Saturday, October 5th, 2013. For most of us this is a once in a lifetime event. Let’s make it as memorable as it deserves to be.
